AIS Aberdeen training centre gets oil and gas industry accreditation

A new state-of-the-art industrial training centre in Aberdeen has received its first approval from oil and gas training body OPITO to run oil and gas courses.

The new 20,000 sqft² facility at Kingshill Commercial Park was developed by AIS Training to create a centre of excellence for the oil and gas, wind and heavy industry skills training sectors.

Following an intensive two-day audit in June, the centre has now been accredited to deliver OPITO’s Banksman and Slinger Competence Standard, Stages 3 and 4 - the first of many OPITO approvals planned.

The centre is also running accredited courses in rope access training, working at height, confined space, first aid, rigging, mechanical joint integrity and fork lift truck handling.

AIS Training has invested more than £1m into the centre, which includes a range of specially constructed working at height and renewables platforms, confined spaces, rigging and lifting structures, as well as scaffolding and industrial plant and fabric maintenance training areas. These simulate industrial environments and give delegates an extremely realistic learning experience, better preparing them for working in the field.

Paul Attrill, AIS Director of Training and Education, said: “We are delighted to receive OPITO’s highly-coveted approval at our new Aberdeen training centre. This is testament to the high quality of training provision and bespoke facilities we have on offer. Significant investment in our new Aberdeen centre complements our other UK locations and provides our clients with greater choice.

“As the oil and gas sector starts to pick up, this investment will ensure our clients avoid issues of the past like skills shortages and have a skilled, knowledgeable, talented and well-prepared workforce so that they can take advantages of the opportunities as they arrive.”
